Diodes: A semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only.
a thermionic tube having two electrodes (an anode and a cathode).
Transistors:A semiconductor device with three connections, capable of amplification in addition to rectification.
a portable radio using circuits containing transistors rather than vacuum tubes.
Advantages The primary advantage of RTL technology was that it used a minimum number of transistors. In circuits using discrete components, before integrated circuits, transistors were the most expensive component to produce. Early IC logic production (such as Fairchild's in 1961) used the same approach briefly, but quickly transitioned to higher-performance circuits such as diode-transistorlogic and then transistor-transistorslogic (starting 1963 at Sylvania), since diodes and transistors were no more expensive than resistors in the IC.
Electromagnets
Electromagnets: A soft metal core made into a magnet by the passage of electric current through a coil surrounding it.
Ex: circuit breaker
We encounter electromagnets every day in the home and in the devices we use like our phones. The loudspeakers at schools use electromagnets, so do the headphones we use all of the time. And, of course our computers, laptops, game systems, all use electromagnets to conduct electricity and store electrical data.
How Generators Are Used In Homes
The thing we most fear when the weather is bad is the - LOSS OF POWER. Generators can provide a temporary way to power up some, if not all, of our electronic devices in the event of an weather emergency or other power loss. All generators are different but some advantages are: 1. They can use either gas or diesel fuel both of which are pretty easy to get. There are some diesel generators that just use up half the amount of fuel that others use even whereas they are functioning at the same capacity as the other generators. This shows that it is a trustworthy choice for home use as it is able to supply non stop power. 2. You've GOT power when the power is out! Disadvantages 1. Generators can be big bulky and difficult to store. They take up space! 2. Diesel generators consist of big and heavy parts that can be expensive to maintain. 3. You have to keep them in tip top shape and test them before any use.
